BASKETBALL FEVER IN ADULT EDUCATION |
Thursday, April 19, 2007
|
The
adult and vocational centres of the Lester B. Pearson School
Board and the English Montreal School Board have just held their
sixth exhibition basketball game since the beginning of the
school year. This game was a two day event, hosted by the St.
Laurent Adult Centre on April 17 and 18. The final scores were:
April 17, Place Cartier over St. Laurent Adult Centre, 44 to 43
and PACC-Adult Education over West Island Career Centre 58 to
53. On April 18, West Island Career Centre over St. Laurent
Adult Centre, 88 to 83, and PACC-Adult Education over Place
Cartier, 54 to 53.
PACC-Adult Education Centre won the tournament.
These games are in experimentation to determine how effective an
adult/voc sports league would be for the 2007-2008 school year.
We, as a community and as educational institutions have realized
the importance in providing students with positive alternatives.
One of the strategies is having sports activities included in
their academic curriculum. It has become an incentive as well as
a stimulus to stay in school.
It is fascinating to watch these young adults who have undergone
some form of hardship shine on these occasions. The Directorate,
Sector Directors, Centre Directors, Guidance Counsellors,
teachers, Support staff and students have shown nothing but
support and encouragement, including attending the games. The
fever has skyrocketed where now other centres are interested in
coming on board.
We as a community are truly lucky to still have caring
innovative educators who are willing to embark on whatever
possible to make our young adults realise their potential.
Cheers to all involved. |

West Island Career Centre vs St. Laurent Adult Centre |
Friday, April 12, 2007

It
was a close game yesterday at the St. Laurent Adult Centre.
WICC (West Island Career Centre) 70 vs St. Laurent Adult Centre
(EMSB) 73
With great sportsmanship from WICC- who were only told a day
before about the game- came out in the storm and played hard.
With only five players-and one injured in the end, WICC played a
very very good game.
